Peter Engle of the Arcane Auto Society (www.arcaneauto.org) was kind enough to invite us to join them on a run from Penngrove to Sonoma.
The Arcane Auto Society is an organization devoted to the care and use of vehicles which inspire the question "Say, what kind of car is that, anyway?".
As is traditional with old car events, the rally point served coffee...
A well patinated Citroen Traction Avant.
The Isetta is one of the few cars that can make the 2CV appear normal sized.
Three Citroens in one shot: A DS, an Ami, and a 2CV.
France is not the only country represented in the Arcane Auto Society...
The sporting contingent: our 67 Lancia Fulvia coupe and a lovely 63 Porsche 356.
With 87 bhp, the Lancia is unused to being one of the most powerful vehicles on an event. But I think that was the case here.
The route was a nice one, through oaks, fields and vineyards.
Some body roll evident with the Austin in the corners...
One of the fun things, from our position in the rear of the group, was to observe the reactions of passing drivers I'm still a little surprised some didn't drive off the road.
Arrival: the central square in Sonoma.
Lots of interest in the Arcane in Sonoma.
We may start from coffee shops, but we usually end up in pubs...
Sonoma is the site of a festival during the Wine Country Classic, which is held just down the road at Sears Point.
A number of old cars, including some of the racers, drive up from Sears Point and are displayed in the town square.
It must be a hoot to drive a Lotus Formula Junior on city streets.
A favorite with everyone I talked to: a Falcon with race history from new.
The cars circumnavigated the town square before being staged in the park.
A Jowett Jupiter. I would bet it's eligible for the Arcane Auto Society.
Drinks and food on hand for the old car fans...
A Muntz Jet. Another shoo-in for Arcane Auto Society membership, I should think.
Period dress for the Morgan trike pilot.
A good day! Thanks to Peter for inviting us, and thanks to all the Arcane People for bringing out such interesting cars!
